My Story

My name is Millie McMenemy and I stay in New Stevenston (between Glasgow and Edinburgh) with my Mummy & Daddy (Paul & Diane) along with my big brother Ryan and my 3 big sisters Kayleigh, Megan and Shannon. I was born on the 21st of November 2006 and been partying ever since!

When I was born the doctors were very concerned about my health but they could not figure out what was wrong, they tried everything and after 6 months of investigation on Wednesday 27th June 2007 I was diagnosed as having a form of the Zellweger Spectrum.

The Doctors advised that there was no treatment available for me in the United Kingdom and all they could do was provide supportive care. It’s an extremely rare illness and there are only 4 other cases in the UK! My Daddy found that out when he and other members of the family searched the internet to find out as much as they could about the syndrome.

It was this search that led my Mummy & Daddy to find out about an amazing woman called Dr Manuela Martinez who has changed the lives of children who suffer from the same condition. When Dr Martinez heard about me she demanded that my Mummy & Daddy take me to her clinic in Barcelona for 4 weeks to receive special treatment . The treatment is by no means a cure but it will better my quality of life by 3 zillion percent!

However in order to visit Dr Martinez we had to raise lots of pennies to pay for the trip and all the hospital bills. To do this we held a sponsored walk and lots of very special people walked all day in the rain for me and thanks to them and everyone else involved the money was raised and the flights were booked!!!

We have to return every 6 months so keep yourself up to date by checking the website as we may have a few more fundraisers lined up very soon!
